Profile

London born and bred, Dr Ashikur Rahman qualified from St George’s, University of London, in 2008. He worked in various specialities in hospitals, community clinics and GP practices before qualifying as a GP in 2014. His training took him across the country, gaining experience in A&E, general medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, psychiatry, musculoskeletal medicine, women’s health and common skin disorders, as well as general practice.

Dr Rahman has been a salaried partner at a single-handed practice. He now works as an NHS GP in urgent care and out-of-hours settings, and has also established himself as a private GP in Chelsea. He is well known for his caring, patient-centred approach, going above and beyond to ensure the highest quality of care.

He is keen on promoting lifestyle and preventive measures, which led to his own interest in the importance of exercise and diet, and he now also delivers IV vitamin infusions. He likes to follow up his patients, can perform home and hotel visits, and refers patients to highly regarded specialists when needed.

Dr Rahman is currently looking to further his knowledge in menopause care and hormone replacement therapy (HRT), with an advanced certificate of practice, as well as in testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and medical cannabinoids. He also frequently volunteers in the community to deliver health talks, including on cancer screening and resuscitation training.

He is married with two children, with whom he enjoys weekly kickboxing classes and an annual summer camping trip.

The role of a GP

Your GP is your first point of contact for non-emergency and preventive medical care during clinic hours, which vary from one clinic to another. GPs are trained in medicine and qualified to treat people for general health problems, such as illnesses or injuries that cannot be treated with over-the-counter medication. Some GPs specialise in particular areas, such as children’s health or care of older people.

Developing an ongoing relationship with one GP is often the most effective way of managing your healthcare: they get to know you over time and become familiar with your medical history. You may need to see a few GPs before you find the one you trust most and feel comfortable with.

If you are seeing several healthcare practitioners for the same or different health issues, your GP is the best person to coordinate your overall healthcare.
